Worship in my workplace.
August 26, 2008So, I just started working at a new school this year, and its a United Methodist school. That said, I went into the job thinking there would be religion mixed into things around the school. Today though, I was super taken back when the entire faculty was expected to go to Eucharist in the chapel. UM, what? While it’s a nice OFFER, I don’t think I should have to go….I mean, it wasn’t in the job description for me to be United Methodist or even Christian for that matter. I am Christian…I guess, I am at least a spiritual person who believes in a higher power, but I am struggling with what that is..
Ok, so the point is, how is that alright to make me go to worship with my coworkers? Apparently, I was not the only person who feels that way because many others did not participate in the actual Eucharist part of the ceremony, but still. I just really felt upset about the whole ‘forced into religion’ situation. I hope my school doesn’t make a habit of this…they said it was all non-denominational and that we go by “The Golden Rule” in the classrooms…but it really didn’t feel like it today.
Is there anyone else who gets what I am saying? Or am I just over-reacting?
